PAPI 2 (Titan head node)

PAPI version 2 is now available again on the Titan head node. Because
the Linux kernels are not the same on the head and compute nodes, the
standard install of PAPI 2 did not work after the kernel upgrade on
the head node.

This is an unsupported version of PAPI 2 that may be helpful for
development and testing. If you link dynamically, your application
should be able to run on both the front-end and compute nodes, assuming
that the events used are common to both types of system.

PAPI profiling on the head node should be superior to the compute nodes
as it is hardware, not software, based.

Don't forget to disable automatic performance collection for your
VMI batch jobs by including the vmirun flag "-no_perf_data".
