Intro

This is an introductory message to this mailing list/reflector.  
The perftools list is intended to share information about
tools related to performance measurement for applications 
(primarily Linux/cluster tools, but not restricted to
those platforms).

Suggested topics for this list would include announcements of
new performance measurement tools, suggestions for new software,
questions/answers about or reports of problems/solutions
with using software of this category, etc.

I'll start things off by posting several summaries of tools
that are currently available on the NCSA clusters that I know 
about.  After that, it's open for business (and hopefully 
will be useful!)

I've loosely categorized these tools as being for: hardware
performance counting, profiling, message-passing measurement,
and program development/optimization.
