Beacon and Solaris problem 1.1

It seems that in version 1.0 the beacon ran under Solaris OK - but had
the hanging bug.
In version 1.1 TCP central reporting, which worked in 1.0, no longer
works on Solaris.
Now, I guess this could be caused by many things, but to help me look in
the right place, was the code change between 1.0 and 1.1 to do with the
central reporting at all?
I had compilation problems with Perl 5.6 under Solaris - and am running
5.8.5 now - anyone else using 5.8 for any O/S?
