Hi, Stephen -- Confirming this, I'm seeing your RTP traffic locally here
via tcpdump, but seeing no TCP traffic for you at all.
Ie, if you look at the "Local Loss" link for the Central Server (at
http://beacon2.ncsa.uiuc.edu/local_loss.html), you'll see your Beacon
there, but not on the Central Loss page.
The message you're getting means that your Beacon is unable to open a TCP
session with the Central Server at all. (As you've obviously figured out
already.)
Can you send me a copy of your beacon.conf file, the output of a "uname
-a", and the output of both a ping and a traceroute to
jhereg.ncsa.uiuc.edu, please?
