Common Display
Functionality: Common Display

A digital map of an entire 30-40 mile river stretch is projected on a large (4x6 ft.) glowing table.

Tools on Common Display

Common Display Digital Map
Visitors individually or cooperatively query the map by sliding low cost reflective instruments across the flat visual representation.

Flood Risk Tool

These instruments or "tools," which are analogous to tools used by scientists, are tracked by an overhead infrared video camera and pattern recognition software.

The tools reveal context-specific information on selected river basin features such as place names, land cover, elevation, and flood risk, as well as dynamics, e.g., channel flow and erosion at a chosen location.
